Presentation

ELISAVA is currently offering, among other programmes, the Degree in Design, official degree approved within the framework of the European Higher Education Area, within the Engineering and Architecture knowledge field. This fact has meant that the Degree in Design of ELISAVA has been fully recognized as an official university study.

ELISAVA begins an adaptation course from HGD to DDes once it has been approved by the university quality agencies of the country with the aim that all students who since 1995 have taken the Higher Graduate in Design (HGD), degree awarded by Universitat Pompeu Fabra, equate to the future Degree in Design (DDes).

The current Degree in Design that ELISAVA offers is the result of the accumulated experience in different study plans of the HGD that the School has been offering since the year 1995-96. The result of this experience, the current Ddes study plan is very similar with the peculiarity that, unlike the other degrees in Design that the Catalan and Spanish universities offer, the Degree offered by ELISAVA finds itself within the Engineering and Architecture knowledge field.

This is why, and also to adapt the current study plan to the requirements of the European Higher Education Area, that the adaptation course means taking two or four compulsory subjects according to the study plan made in HGD (from 1995 to 2001) that correspond to those fields of Design that were not taken into account within the corresponding study plans and the realization of an End of the Degree Project that, in none of the cases, is not recognized by the one already made.

Pathways to take

According to the taken HGD study plan, the Adaptation Course means the taking of the following subjects:

For the graduates of the 1995 Plan:

Subjects to take (not included in the Recognition Tables):

1st Term:              Maths for Design (6 ECTS)

                                           Physics for Design (6 ECTS)

2nd Term:             Academic Uses and Specific Terminology in English I (4 ECTS)

Academic Uses and Specific Terminology in English II (4 ECTS)

3rd Term:             End of the Degree Project (20 ECTS)

Total amount of credits to take: 40 ECTS

For the graduates of the 2001 Plan:

Subjects to take (not included in the Recognition Tables):

2nd Term:             Academic Uses and Specific Terminology in English I (4 ECTS)

Academic Uses and Specific Terminology in English II (4 ECTS)

3rd Term:             End of the Degree Project (20 ECTS)

Total amount of credits to take: 28 ECTS

As noticed, the different between both cases consists in the fact to take or not the Math and Physics subjects. The study plan of the current Degree in Design takes into account the need to acquire competences within the field of sciences in these two subjects. The HGD 2001 Plan already took them into account but not the HGD 1995 Plan. Therefore, in this case, the subjects that are incorporated in the Adaptation Course aim at incorporating basis of mathematic and physical thought to the competences of the designer.

In the study plan of the Degree in Design considers the importance of acquiring competences in the use of English to increase the knowledge of the discipline in this language, as well as to be able to develop the training and career within an international environment. In this sense, concerning the Higher Graduates in Design of the 1995 and 2001 plans, it is considered appropriate to take the subjects relative to the use of English and the specific terminology, specially focused on new social, economic and technologic scenarios.
