Swab Stairs covers again the stairs of the main metro stations of Barcelona with vinyl reproductions of the work of twelve students from selected schools and universities, among them ELISAVA and two international centers, Paris College of Art and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp.
In its 5th edition, the initiative is focused on the topic “The intelligent and sustainable city”, challenging the students to give solutions for our cities to be smarter, environmentally sustainable and in harmony with its citizens.
Our students of the Master in Illustration and Comic Nafisa Nandini Crishna will have her spot on the stairs of the Drassanes metro station.
Nafisa explains her design to us: “This concept represents a utopian city, built on one of the most integral parts of any device: the motherboard. The complex routing forms the roadways, the Smart Grid, and the municipal systems of the city; whereas the circuits form the structures. The tower symbolises the city center, and its reference to the Tower of Babel represents diversity, not just in terms of language, but social and cultural diversity as well. The city is a marriage of technological and ecological sustainability using energy efficient solutions, and it looks to create a self sustained, equal society”.
Swab Stairs, which is part of the programme of the international art fair Swab Barcelona, is organized by TMB Cultura with the support of the Culture Deparment of the Government of Catalonia and of Fujifilm.
