Ramon Faura from ELISAVA is the curator of a FADfest 2017 focused on tourism

FADfest’17 focuses its current edition on tourism, its impact and on how its management affects the daily life of a city like Barcelona. Ramon Faura, profesor and Head of the Social Area of ELISAVA, is the curator of an edition from which we highlight the following activities:

 

Opening lecture by Michael Webb

Michael Webb is a founding member of the experimental architecture group Archigram. They started in the beginning of the 60s and are the first ones in thinking from what’s technological, architectures of what’s fun, what’s nomadic, cybernetic urbanism. They are the conceptual fathers of both the Pompidou Center of Renzo Piano and the virtual reality glasses, for example.

We will have the voice from Beth Galí (architect, urbanist and expert in the Olympic project); Joseba Zulaika (anthropologist with a very critical book analyzing the Guggenheim operation in Bilbao); Jaume Plensa (the artist that is “re-defining” the iconic identity of a lot of cities with his peculiar “phenomenologic” esculptures) and Sergi Caballero, one of the Founder-Directors of the Sonar festival.


Tour. Alternative narratives for Tourist Barcelona

From Wednesday, June 28th a tourist bus turned into a rolling exhibition will go around Barcelona with 120 minutes of documentary material about tourism, gentrification, sustainability or city-brand. Moreover, on Saturday, July 1st, the same bus will be the moving core concept of seven talks by experts in seven open-air tourist spaces:

Gerard Horta (anthropologist) at Parc Güell.
Juanjosé Lahuerta at Sagrada Família.
Saida Palou (historian expert in tourism) at Passeig de Gràcia.
Mariscal and Francesc Pla at Montjuïch.
Andrés Antebi (anthropologist, also a professor at the School) at la Barceloneta.
Daniele Porreta (activist architect at the city centre).
 

Audiovisual- concert “El estado turístico” (The State of Tourism)

The last stop of the bus and closing of the event will be a show in which the music was made for the occasion (Jaume Pla –Mazoni-, Florenci Salesas and the alumni and professor of ELISAVA Roman Daniel) will give a soundtrack to an audiovisual piece about the tourist imaginary. The space design of the event has been developed in a workshop at ELISAVA, which was carried out by Roman Daniel and Saúl Baeza. The results of the workshop of The Materials Farm, carried out from Materfad with the School’s collaboration, will be added afterwards.
