The graphic design area of ​​ELISAVA invites the award-winning letter drawer and graphic artist Cyrus Highsmith on February 28th to offer a talk on his work at the School.

In the conference, entitled "Large, simple, small and complicated drawings", Highsmith will discuss the possible contradictions of type design and talk about his own obsessions with shape, repetition and different types of drawing. Most likely, he will bring himself to do it directly in Spanish with some interventions in English.

The talk will be preceded by a brief presentation of the new Master’s Degree in Typographical Creation of ELISAVA.

Cyrus Highsmith is the author and illustrator of the acclaimed primer "Inside Paragraphs: Typographic Fundamentals" (Campgràfic). His foundry, Occupant Fonts, includes dozens of his original typefaces. In addition, he teaches type design at Rhode Island School of Design. In 2015, he received the Gerrit Noordzij Prize for his extraordinary contribution to the fields of type design, typography and type education. In 2017, he was named Creative Director for the Latin type development in Morisawa USA.
